I'm 1 full month into the 1962 AL season that started on April 9th. As reported earlier my Detroit Tigers have been playing at a level much higher than their actual 1962 record. The Tigers are in 1st place in the AL with a 17-5 record, 6 games better than their actual 11-11 record. Rocky Colavito (.333, 11 HR, 31 RBI) and Norm Cash (.357, 8 HR, 28 RBI) have led the offense for the Tigers. They are #1 and #2 in the AL in HR and RBI.
Even more surprising than how Detroit has performed is the play of the Washington Senators. The Senators are in 3rd place with a 14-8 record. Picked by most to finish in last place Washington was 5-17 at this point in the actual season. The Senators are ranked 1st in batting and 2nd in pitching in the league. Bob Johnson (.372 BA, 22 RBI) and Jimmy Piersall (.362) have led the offense for Washington.
The 2nd year Minnesota Twins have been, and were, a surprise team in the 1962 AL season. They finished 2nd in the AL and are currently in the same position in my asplayed replay. They have been the top team in total Runs Scored. Bob Allison (8 HR, 27 RBI) leads the offense while Camilo Pascual has the most Wins (5) in the AL.
The Boston Red Sox have been the most underperforming team in the league so far. Their offense has been anemic and the pitching is next to last. Baltimore, Los Angeles and Kansas City have also gotten off to disappointing starts. The actual and defending Champion New York Yankees have gotten balanced performances from the players but recently hit a rough stretch at the start of May going 2-5. The Chicago White Sox and Cleveland Indians look to be solid teams.
