The Detroit Tigers finally put an end to their losing streak at 6 games by coming from behind to defeat the Cleveland Indians 6-3. Detroit starter Phil Regan pitched a good game until the Indians wrestled the lead away in the bottom of the 8th. Trailing 3-2, Tigers 1st baseman Norm Cash led off the 9th with a single. Rocky Colavito came to the plate next and smashed a 2-run homer, his 2nd homerun of the game. Detroit added 2 more runs in the 9th before Sam Jones came on to close the game out. It was a 6-3 streak ending victory for the Tigers.

TEAM RISP- Tigers: 1 for 5 Indians: 1 for 5
Left fielder Rocky Colavito smashed 2 homeruns and had 3 RBI at Municipal
Stadium as the Detroit Tigers came back dramatically to top the Cleveland
Indians by the score of 6 to 3.
Detroit came through with the game-winning runs in the 9th inning scoring 4
runners on 4 hits. The crucial at-bat was provided by Colavito who
disappointed the partisan crowd when he blasted a two-run home run. Detroit
had 7 hits for the afternoon.
Ron Nischwitz(2-0) allowed no runs in 2/3 of an inning, and picked up the
victory. Sam Jones recorded his 2nd save. Pedro Ramos(2-1) was hit with the
loss. He served up 3 gopher balls in 8 and 2/3 innings.
Mel McGaha was understandably not very talkative after his team's tough loss.
He quickly showered and changed and when asked about the game had a terse,
yet polite response, 'Hey fellows, that game was a heart-breaker to lose.
Our guys gave it their all and played well - fate just wasn't smilin' on us
this afternoon'
