Center fielder Vada Pinson launched 2 homeruns and had 5 RBI and Bob Purkey
pitched a complete game as the Cincinnati Reds defeated the St. Louis
Cardinals 16 to 7 at Crosley Field.

Pinson enjoyed a great evening at the plate. He belted a three-run homer in
the 1st inning, smashed a two-run homer in the 3rd inning and slapped a
one-base hit in the 8th inning. Cincinnati kept the scorekeepers busy in the
3rd inning which saw them plate 4 runs on 5 hits and the 7th inning when they
had 4 runs on 3 hits. St. Louis scored in 5 different innings, but their
shaky pitching kept them from victory.

Purkey(20-5) lasted until the end allowing 7 runs for the win. Ernie
Broglio(6-8) was the losing pitcher. He was knocked around by Cincinnati,
allowing 8 hits and 2 walks in 2 and 1/3 innings.

With this win, Cincinnati has a 58-47 record. They have been 6-4 lately.
With the loss, St. Louis has a record of 6-4 lately, 54-54 overall.
