August 4, 1962
After losing yesterday's series opener of a 4 game set against the 2nd place Minnesota Twins, the Detroit Tigers made sure there wouldn't be a chance the Twins would come back in this one by pounding Minnesota 24-5. Detroit scored 8 runs in the 1st inning for a commanding lead and then piled on with 2 runs in the 4th, 6 in the 5th, 5 in the 6th and 3 in the 7th. They showed no mercy against 5 Minnesota pitchers. The 24 runs were the most scored by any team in a game this season in the AL. Tiger 3rd sacker Steve Boros had 7 RBI. It is 2nd most in the AL in 1 game this season. Don Mossi got his 13th Win of the season, most on the Detroit ballclub this year. The series is now even 1-1 with a doubleheader on tap for tomorrow.

TEAM RISP- Twins: 1 for 5 Tigers: 8 for 13
Steve Boros collected 2 extra-base hits and had 7 RBI as the indomitable
Detroit Tigers man-handled the Minnesota Twins - the final score was 24 to
5.
Boros had a great day at the plate. He stroked a base-hit which scored a run
in the 1st inning, doubled with all three baserunners touching home in the
5th inning and tripled with all three runners coming home in the 6th inning.
Detroit provided plenty of action in the 1st inning which saw them score 8
runs on 6 hits and the 5th inning with 6 runs on 3 hits. Detroit finished
with 19 hits while Minnesota ended up with 8.
Don Mossi(13-4) allowed 3 runs in 6 and 2/3 innings, and picked up the
victory. Jackie Collum(0-2) was the loser. He gave up 5 hits and 2 walks in
1/3 of an inning.
'Actually, I didn't feel that comfortable at the plate today' Boros said after
the game. 'Despite that, I'm happy with the results!
