1962 AL Game: KC @ Chi.

April 22, 1962

  In the best pitching duel so far in this 1962 season Ed Rakow and the Kansas City Athletics defeated Ray Herbert and the Chicago White Sox 1-0 in 10 innings. Both pitchers went the distance allowing 6 hits and 3 walks, but the Athletics were the team that managed to scratch out a run in the 10th inning.

Ed Rakow whitewashed Chicago as the Kansas City Athletics defeated the Chicago
White Sox in 10 innings by a score of 1 to 0 at Comiskey Park.
 
The run-column was full of goose eggs at the end of nine full innings.
Finally, Kansas City prevailed in the 10th inning.  Gino Cimoli singled.  Ed
Charles dug into the batters box next, but he struck out.  Manny Jimenez then
stroked a one-base hit.  Billy Bryan followed next and he lined a base-hit
scoring the run.  Both teams ended up with 6 hits on the afternoon.
 
Rakow(1-2) went the distance for the shutout. The losing pitcher was Ray
Herbert(0-3).  He pitched 10 innings giving up 6 hits and 3 walks.
