September 25, 1962
Today's slate of games in the NL saw some fine pitching performances along with some milestones being attained. Houston's Turk Farrell won his 16th game of the season in the Colt 45's victory over the LA Dodgers 9-3. Farrell allowed only 2 earned runs while lowering his NL Leading ERA to 2.31. Milwaukee's Warren Spahn came away with his 16th Win in a duel with New York's Jay Hook. Spahn and the Braves won the 1-0 game by scoring a run in the bottom of the 9th.
Cincinnati's Bob Purkey won his NL leading 28th game of the year in a well pitched 11-1 victory over the Pittsburgh Pirates.
San Francisco's Jack Sanford won his 20th game of the season today, defeating the St. Louis Cardinals 4-2. He joins Purkey and teammate Juan Marichal as the only 20 game winners in the NL. It was also the 100th Win of the season for the Giants.
