The San Francisco Giants are in 1st place in the NL with 5 other teams in hot pursuit right behind them. Willie Mays (1st in HR with 23), Orlando Cepeda (1st in RBI with 72) and Juan Marichal (1st in Wins with 14) among others have led the Giants.
For the 2nd place Pittsburgh Pirates Bob Skinner (.354, 8 HR, 44 RBI), Roberto Clemente (.329, 7, 46), Bill Mazeroski (.307, 8, 49), Bob Friend (13-3, 2.31 ERA) and Roy Face (14 Saves) are having outstanding seasons. The 3rd place Philadelphia Phillies are led by Johnny Callison (.375 BA, 1st in NL and 20 HR, 3rd in NL), Tony Gonzalez (.340, 12, 49), Don Demeter (.328, 18, 57) and Chris Short (9-0, 2.02 ERA).
Other players having outstanding seasons are Cincinnati's Bob Purkey (14-5, 2.58), Gary Coleman (.323, 16, 53) and Frank Robinson (.316, 19, 60). The LA Dodgers have Sandy Koufax (13-3, 2.50, 199 K's), Tommy Davis (.326, 16, 62), Willie Davis (.293, 16, 48) and Maury Wills (64 steals).
St. Louis Cardinal Bill White has cooled off a bit but only a bit. He's still 2nd in BA (.364) and has 17 HR with 58 RBI. His teammate Ken Boyer is hitting .333 with 14 HR and 69 RBI.
The Houston Colt 45's have been the biggest surprise in the NL. It's been a collective team effort to get the Colt 45s to their winning record. Leftfielder Roman Mejias (.306, 16, 54) and pitcher Turk Farrell 7 Wins, 2.39 ERA) have the best stats on the team.
