1962 NL Game: Cin. @ SL

June 5, 1962

  Cincinnati's Bob Purkey won his 12th game of the year, defeating the St. Louis Cardinals 3-2 tonight. Purkey went the distance for the 9th time in 13 starts and is now a league best 12-1 with a 2.06 ERA. The 1st place Reds have been red-hot winning their 7th game in a row. They're now 9-1 in their last 10.

First baseman Don Pavletich slammed a homerun and Bob Purkey allowed Fred
Hutchinson to rest his bullpen, tossing a complete game as the sizzling
Cincinnati Reds defeated the St. Louis Cardinals by the score of 3 to 2 at
Sportsman's Park.
 
In the 2nd inning Cincinnati scored 2 runs when they had 3 base hits.  It was
enough scoring to earn the victory.  St. Louis tried unsuccessfully to come
back in the 9th.  
 
Purkey(12-1) allowed 2 runs on the game. Curt Simmons(3-3) suffered the loss.
Cincinnati continued their winnings ways improving their record to a league
leading 32-16.  They are 9-1 in their last ten games.  With this loss, St.
Louis has a 5-5 record of late, 25-24 overall.
