1962 AL Game: Det. @ Min.

May 5, 1962

My Detroit Tigers have been playing out of their minds at the beginning of this 1962 season. They have won 8 in a row now, 9 out of their last 10. They stand at 16-3 on the year, good for 1st place in the AL. Today, Detroit battered the 2nd place Minnesota Twins 11-1. Norm Cash (pictured) went 5 for 5 with 2 HR's and 6 RBI. Rocky Colavito added 2 homeruns, he has a MLB high 11 on the season now. Jim Bunning went the distance on the mound for the Tigers getting his 3rd Win and lowering his ERA to 2.63.
This team has played lights-out since losing their 1st game of the season. It has been a lot of fun so far. I know this level of play can't continue all season, but I'm going to enjoy it while it does!

TEAM RISP- Tigers: 5 for 13 Twins: 1 for 10

Norm Cash rocketed 2 homeruns and had 6 RBI and Jim Bunning went the distance
as the seemingly unstoppable Detroit Tigers crushed the Minnesota Twins 11 to
1.

Cash propelled Detroit to victory. He banged out a single scoring a run in
the 1st inning, lashed a one-base hit which plated a run in the 3rd inning,
delivered a single resulting in a run in the 5th inning, cleared the fences
for a two-run home run in the 6th inning and ripped a solo home run in the
8th inning. Detroit rapped out 14 hits for the afternoon.

Bunning(3-0) lasted until the end allowing 1 run for the win. Lee Stange(2-1)
took the loss. He was not very effective, surrendering 5 runs in 4 and 1/3
innings.

In another of a string of victories, Detroit extended their winning streak to
8 games.
