1962 AL Game: KC @ NY

 September 1, 1962

  New York's Ralph Terry became the first 20 game winner in the AL when he pitched brilliantly in the Yankees 10 inning, 2-1 victory over the Kansas City A's today. Terry got locked up in a tight pitching duel with Bill Fischer and went the full 10 innings before the Yankees prevailed. Terry allowed only 6 hits and 1 walk while striking out 9 in the game. It was also his 18th Complete Game of the season.

Ralph Terry completed the game without help from the bullpen at Yankee Stadium
as the New York Yankees beat the Kansas City Athletics in 11 innings 2 to
1.
 
The score was tied at 1 after nine.  New York won the game in the 11th inning.
Bobby Richardson drew a walk.  Tom Tresh next to the plate and he lined a
base-hit.  After an out was recorded, Hector Lopez then lashed a single
making New York the victors to the delight of the home town faithful.  The
teams had been locked in a scoreless duel until the 6th inning.  
 
The win went to Terry(20-8) who allowed 1 run in the game. Jerry Walker(6-14)
was the losing pitcher in relief.  He gave up 2 hits and 2 walks in 2 and 1/3
innings.
