1962 NL Game: Phi. @ LA

July 2, 1962

  Tony Gonzalez had a big day at the plate tonight, leading the Philadelphia Phillies to a 15-6 victory  over the LA Dodgers. It was 2 days early but Gonzalez provided the fireworks by slamming 3 HR's and driving in 7 runs. The two teams combined for 7 HR's and 33 hits in the game. The 7 RBI by Gonzalez are the most by any player in the NL this season.

Tony Gonzalez cracked 3 homeruns and had 7 RBI as the Philadelphia Phillies
outscored the Los Angeles Dodgers 15 to 6.
 
Gonzalez had a big day with his bat.  He delivered a one-base hit scoring a
run in the 1st inning, cracked a two-run shot in the 3rd inning, blasted a
two-run home run in the 4th inning and clubbed a two-run home run in the 6th
inning.  Philadelphia lit up the scoreboard in the 3rd inning with 5 runs on
7 hits and the 6th inning which saw them plate 5 runs on 4 hits.  Despite
scoring in 5 separate innings, Los Angeles could not get the win.  
 
Bill Smith(1-1) got the win allowing 4 runs in 6 innings. Dallas Green earned
the save, his 5th.  Stan Williams(1-9) absorbed the loss.  He was knocked
around pretty good, giving up 7 runs in 2 and 2/3 innings.
