1962 AL Games: Min. @ Det.

 August 5, 1962

  The Detroit Tigers and Minnesota Twins completed their 4 game series with a doubleheader today at Tiger Stadium. The Twins took Game #1 8-6 while the Tigers came back to win Game #2 12-3.  
  Minnesota came from behind with a 5 run 6th to claim the 1st game. Rich Rollins had 4 hits including his 14th homerun of the season to power the Twins to victory. Detroit had 17 hits including 3 homeruns in the 2nd game which saw Howie Koplitz Win his 1st game as a Tiger. Norm Cash had one of those homers, his 35th of the year.
  So the two teams split the series 2-2 and Minnesota leaves town still trailing Detroit by 4.5 games.

Rich Rollins had 4 hits and Jim Kaat had a complete game as the Minnesota
Twins defeated the Detroit Tigers 8 to 6 at Tiger Stadium.
 
Minnesota had 5 runs cross the plate in the 6th inning with the help of 6
hits.  The biggest moment was provided by Bernie Allen who quieted the crowd
when he doubled bringing home two baserunners.  Detroit scored in 5 different
innings, but their shaky pitching kept them from victory.  
 
Kaat(11-10) lasted until the end allowing 6 runs for the win. Paul
Foytack(6-4) was the losing pitcher.  He was knocked around, surrendering 7
runs in 5 and 1/3 innings.  
 
'It wasn't my best outing, but I'll take the win' Kaat said.

Norm Cash connected with a 'big fly' and had 4 RBI as the indomitable Detroit
Tigers defeated the Minnesota Twins by the score of 12 to 3 at Tiger
Stadium.
 
Cash had a good day at the plate.  He lined a single which scored a run in the
3rd inning, clubbed a two-run home run in the 4th inning and doubled
resulting in a run in the 8th inning.  Detroit out-hit Minnesota for the
game, 17 hits to 7.  
 
Howie Koplitz(1-0) went 5 innings allowing 1 run for the win. Koplitz got
relief help from Ron Kline who gained credit for his 1st save.  Jackie
Collum(0-3) absorbed the loss.  He gave up 6 runs in 2 and 1/3 innings of
work.
