1962 NL Game: Cin. @ Pit.

 September 20, 1962 

  Cincinnati's Bob Purkey won his 27th game of the year, 1-0 against the Pittsburgh Pirates tonight in Pittsburgh. In a tight, well pitched game by both teams, the only run scored in the game came on a wild pitch in the 4th inning. The 27 Wins by Purkey are the most by any pitcher in MLB this season.

Bob Purkey blanked Pittsburgh in a very well-pitched complete game at Forbes
Field where the Cincinnati Reds beat the Pittsburgh Pirates by the score of 1
to 0.
 
Purkey(27-8) was very good in the win.  He surrendered only 7 hits and 3 walks
in 9 innings.  Pittsburgh made it exciting in the 9th, but they were unable
to push the needed runs across.  
 
Bob Veale(3-1) was tagged with the loss. He surrendered 1 run and 4 hits in 3
and 1/3 innings.
