Willie Mays blasted 2 homeruns and had 7 RBI at Candlestick Park where the San
Francisco Giants beat the Pittsburgh Pirates 15 to 10.
Mays had a great day at the plate. He lost the ball over the fence for three
runs in the 2nd inning, launched a three-run homer in the 6th inning and
ripped a base-hit in the 7th inning. San Francisco bats were hot in the 1st
inning which saw them score 4 runs on 3 hits, the 2nd inning which saw them
plate 4 runs on 3 hits and the 6th inning with 6 runs on 5 hits. Pittsburgh
had a chance to come back in the 9th but they came up short.
Jack Sanford(12-7) went 8 and 1/3 innings allowing 5 runs for the win. Harvey
Haddix(4-7) ended up with the loss. 'Some losses are harder to take than
others' Danny Murtaugh lamented after the game. 'This was one of them.'
