The pitchers were really dealing in the 4 games played today in the NL. Three of the games ended in shutouts and the 4th saw the losing team score just 1 run. The best pitched game also had one of the toughest breaks for the winning pitcher. Houston's Bob Bruce carried a no-hitter into the 9th inning only to see Philadelphia's Tony Gonzalez single with 2 outs. Bruce finished with a 1-hit shutout as the Colt 45's defeated the Phillies 2-0. LA's Don Drysdale threw a 4-hit shutout in a 5-0 victory over the Cincinnati Reds. SF's Juan Marichal threw a 6-hit shutout in the Giants 2-0 win over the Milwaukee Braves. For Marichal it was his 15tth Win of the season. Cal Koonce got the victory in the Cubs 7-1 win over the St. Louis Cardinals in the only game played that saw the losers score a run.
