Bob Allison had 3 base hits and 4 RBI and Camilo Pascual went the distance at
Metropolitan Stadium as the Minnesota Twins beat the Kansas City Athletics by
the count of 12 to 4.

Allison had a big evening at the plate. He delivered a base-hit resulting in
a run in the 1st inning, lined a single in the 4th inning and tripled
clearing all three ducks off the pond in the 5th inning. Kansas City had 14
hits in the game while Minnesota had 9, but Minnesota had the more timely
hits.

The winning pitcher was Pascual(11-1) who allowed 4 runs for the game. John
Wyatt(3-4) was tagged with the loss. He was unable to control the Minnesota
offense and allowed 5 hits and 3 walks in 2 innings.

1962 AL Standings

June 1, 1962

The calendar has turned to the month of June in the 1962 season. The Minnesota Twins have a firm grip on 1st place in the AL. While they are a very good team they've been overperforming in my replay. They are the top hitting and pitching team in the league. After going 14-4 in April the Twins were a league best 19-11 in May too. My 2nd place Detroit Tigers have been playing near .500 ball in May.  The Tigers' hitting has remained excellent but the pitching has faltered badly. They've also lost star outfielder Al Kaline for 2 months. The Washington Senators continue to confound all the experts with their standing in the league. They are 2nd to Minnesota in team hitting and pitching. The Cleveland Indians, Chicago White Sox, and Los Angeles Angels all improved in May.  The New York Yankees are underperforming quite a bit. They've been getting good pitching but the hitting has been more than inadequate. Mantle has missed games due to injury and Roger Maris is really struggling after a record year in '61. The team as a whole has just not shown the power we've seen with most NY teams. Nothing much to say about Baltimore, Boston, and Kansas City. They've all played poorly.

1962 AL League Leaders

June 1, 1962

We're 2 months into the 1962 season in the AL. Detroit's Rocky Colavito has powered his way up to the top spots in HR's and RBI. He's also hitting at a .333 clip. His teammate Norm Cash has posted some very impressive stats of his own (.317 BA, 14 HR, 38 RBI). Baltimore's Brook Robinson is leading the league in hitting (.394BA). Minnesota's Camilo Pascual is the top pitcher in the league (10-1, 2.45 ERA, 79 K's). His teammate Harmon Killebrew is another player putting up impressive power #'s (14 HR, 40 RBI).  Here are the League Leaders in the AL:

1962 NL Standings

June 1, 1962

We're heading into the month of June in the 1962 NL season. There's a terrific battle going on for the top spot in the league. 7 teams are in the thick of it and that number would be 8 if the Milwaukee Brewers hadn't gone on a bad run (2-8) their last 10 games. The Cincinnati Reds and San Francisco Giants are tied for 1st right now.  Cincinnati had a league best record of 18-7 in May. Both the Reds and the Giants have identical Runs/Agnst Differentials of 41. But LA, Pittsburgh, Philadelphia, and St. Louis have all shown that they too are in the Pennant race for the long haul. St. Louis has been the top offensive team (.302 BA, 258 RS) in the NL. The Los Angeles Dodgers are tops in pitching (3.37, ERA, 196 RA, 4 R/G) but Pittsburgh is right up there with LA (3.41 ERA, 180 RA, 4.09 R/G).

1962 NL Games: SF @ Phil.

May 30, 1962

Philadelphia's Roy Sievers had a fine day at the plate in a doubleheader played today against the San Francisco Giants. In the 1st game Sievers hit 3 homeruns, driving in 5 runs in the Phillies 11-4 victory. In the 2nd game he drove in another 5 runs with having just 1 hit, a homerun. 2 of the runs came on the homer and the other 3 runs scored on sacrifice flies. The Phillies lost the 2nd game 8-6 but it wasn't through any fault of Sievers' efforts.
All in all, Sievers hit 4 homeruns and had 10 RBI in the doubleheader today. A day he will be sure to remember for a long time.

Ernie Broglio tossed a complete game at Forbes Field as the St. Louis
Cardinals beat the Pittsburgh Pirates 11 to 2.

Curt Flood was a seemingly constant irritant to the hometown fans as he
provided much of the offense for the visitors. He cleared the bases with a
Grand Slam homerun in the 2nd inning and ripped a base-hit bringing in two
baserunners in the 4th inning. St. Louis had 15 hits for the night.

The victory was credited to Broglio(2-3) who went the distance, allowing 2
runs. Harvey Haddix(0-3) was hit with the loss. He was knocked around,
surrendering 10 runs in 3 and 1/3 innings.
