1962 Game Det. @ Clv.

May 19, 1962

The Detroit Tigers losing streak reached 6 games today as the Tigers dropped a 12-10 decision to the Cleveland Indians. The Tigers bats were connecting but their pitching failed in the high scoring game. Detroit battled back to take a 9-5 lead in the 6th inning and led 10-6 in the 7th. But Cleveland battled back themselves scoring 3 runs in the 7th and 3 in the 8th to take a 12-10 lead. The Tigers went down in order in the 9th and the Indians walked away with the win. Detroit banged out 16 hits in the game but 4 errors in the field and ineffective pitching let them down. Chuck Essegian hit 2 homeruns and drove in 4 while Frank Funk pitched 2 scoreless innings for the winning team.

Chuck Essegian cracked 2 homeruns and had 4 RBI as the Cleveland Indians
defeated the ice-cold Detroit Tigers by a score of 12 to 10 at Municipal
Stadium.

Essegian enjoyed a big day at the plate. He smacked a three-run homer in the
1st inning and smashed a bases-empty 'big-fly' in the 5th inning. Even
though they scored in 6 different innings, Detroit was not able to pull off
the win.

The victory was credited to Frank Funk(2-0) who went 2 innings, allowing no
runs. Ron Kline(1-1) was given the loss in relief.
