1962 NL Game Stories

April 24, 1962

In games played today in the NL there were a number of standout pitching performances. LA's Sandy Koufax struck out a 1962 MLB season high 15 batters as the Dodgers defeated the Chicago Cubs 4-3. In the Philadelphia @ Milwaukee game the Phillie's Art Mahaffey out dueled the Brave's Warren Spahn in Philadelphia's 1-0 victory. Both pitchers allowed only 5 hits and the game was decided by a leadoff homerun from Tony Taylor. No runs were scored after that point. San Francisco's Juan Marichal  went the distance in a 6-hit, 9-0, shutout victory over the Pittsburgh Pirates.
